Read a book from your inventory.

Implementation: Implemented.

Syntax

/book read <inventory_index>
/book <inventory_index>  (client version <= 561)

Arguments

Position is zero-based in sep, after a registered database subcommand has been removed. Internal action tokens remain at position 0. Angle brackets are required; square brackets are optional. Alternative forms may change field meanings.

Position Argument Accepted value / type Meaning
0 action_or_index text or integer read for the general form; numeric inventory index for the classic form.
1 inventory_index integer Required after read; inventory list index, not a database item ID.

Behavior and restrictions

  • The shorter numeric form is accepted only on clients at version 561 or earlier. /read uses the same current handler.

Current argument/client/target checks (exact source excerpts; branch-dependent):

if(sep->arg[1][0] && strcmp(sep->arg[0], "read") == 0 && sep->IsNumber(1)) {
else if(client->GetVersion() <= 561 && sep->IsNumber(0)) {

Permissions

Local database snapshot, October 6, 2026: /book requires status 0 (handler 463). Other worlds may configure different values.

The dispatcher checks the resolved registration status before invoking the handler. In-handler guild, group, ownership, client-version and target checks still apply.

Examples

The syntax forms above are the source-based invocation examples. Replace identifiers with values valid for your world; client callback fields are supplied by the game client.
